Experience: 10 Years
Location: Washington, DC

Versatile graphic designer specializing in infographics. I help companies and organizations translate branding, marketing, and advocacy goals into clear, actionable, and engaging visual products. I specialize in infographics and also have a broad portfolio of digital and print/marketing design work. I also specialize in digital strategy (helping you engage your audiences online) and—with my writing background—am a versatile copywriter as well. Director, Digital Strategy and Design – Council for a Strong America (2 years)

Responsibilities: I was hired to transform the visual brand of six related organizations struggling to find their focus online. My challenge was to redefine our brand in order to strengthen our identity. I led a digital team to design engaging content—including data visualization products—that raised the profile of our work. I was the liaison between internal clients and my team, gathering specifications and requirements, managing client input, managing timelines and projects, and being responsible for quality control and final execution.
Lead: How is My Kid Doing (ongoing)

I created and launched this digital video storytelling project to engage parents on the value of measuring and understanding kids' progress in school and recognizing the role that standardized tests play.
Director, Content Strategy – Families USA (3 years)

Responsibilities: I led content strategy efforts across the organization, helping teams make informed decisions about which content to produce (including data visualizations) and how to message and distribute it across different digital platforms to help audiences understand our research. I also managed the design team, and led the visual rebranding of the organization, which resulted in a new visual identity system, templates for infographics, reports, marketing and event collateral, and social media and email campaigns.
Publications/Project Manager, The Pew Charitable Trusts (5 years)

Responsibilities: I managed the process of planning, editing, and designing publications and visuals (including data visualizations) for the Pew Center on the States, a division of the Pew Charitable Trusts. I supervised a small team of designers, digital writers, and outside developers responsible for instituting static and interactive data visualization products as the standard across the institution.

C. and I not only worked closely together at a curriculum publishing company, we also have worked on projects throughout my time as a consultant. She has a very unique combination of skills and background including editing, copy writing, the uncanny ability to capture the essence of every concept graphically. She is experienced in web design and other digital design, all aspects of graphic design, and social media .Just to top it all off, she fluently bilingual in English and Spanish. Her new consulting company is a woman/minority owned business. Carla’s design aesthetic is clean , fresh, and can go bold or corporate.

I highly recommend Carla. If you enjoy collaborating with someone who is responsive, enthusiastic and talented. She’s your woman!
